Choose a clear photo for your personalized canvas or pet portrait blanket. This guide explains lighting, framing and what to check before you upload.
A favorite memory is a good place to start. For products that ask for a photo, the best source image clearly shows the details you want to keep. Follow the upload instructions on your chosen product page; products personalized with names or dates may not need a photo.
Five checks before you upload
- Start with the original image. Use the original camera file when available. Screenshots and images saved from social media can lose detail.
- Zoom in on the important details. Eyes, lettering, faces or architectural features should look clear. A larger file cannot restore detail that was out of focus.
- Choose even light. Natural daylight often works well. Avoid deep shadows over the subject, harsh glare and strongly colored filters.
- Leave room around the subject. Keep ears, rooflines, people and other important features inside the image. Check the orientation and composition requested by the listing before cropping.
- Match the photo to the product. Check the number of subjects, required view and accepted upload format on the product page. Upload the photo you want used and enter any requested wording exactly.
Choose a photo for your kind of keepsake
House and wedding venue portraits
Choose a clear exterior view showing the building and the features that matter to you. Keep the roofline in frame and avoid cars, trees or people hiding important details where possible. Select an angle you would be happy to see in the finished composition.

Pet and horse portraits
Use a well-lit photo with clear eyes, markings and the features you want remembered. Avoid cropped ears and heavy shadows. The current pet and horse portrait listings each use one animal; follow the specific listing’s instructions when choosing your image.
Compare the pet memorial canvas, horse portrait canvas and pet portrait woven blanket. Printed canvas and woven cotton have different surface textures; review the product photos and material details before choosing.
Family, classic car and boat photo canvases
These current canvas designs preserve your complete photograph inside a printed border. Choose a composition you like as a whole. For a family photo, check that every face is visible and sharp. For a car or boat, include the whole vehicle and any lettering or distinctive details you want shown.

Handwritten recipe canvases
Photograph or scan one recipe page with all the handwriting visible. Lay the page flat, light it evenly and check for glare or shadows. The handwritten recipe canvas preserves the original image with light cleanup; it does not retype the recipe. Check that faint writing is readable in the source image.
Common photo questions
Can I use an old photo or a phone photo?
Check the image itself rather than its age or the camera used. A clear phone photo may show more usable detail than a blurry larger image. For an old printed photo, a sharp scan or evenly lit photograph can help preserve the details that remain.
Can separate photos be combined?
The canvas and pet blanket products linked here request one source image. Do not assume that combining people, pets or backgrounds is included. Contact Inksake before ordering if your idea needs something different.
Will I see the artwork before it is made?
Where a product listing includes an artwork preview, follow that listing’s review process. Check names, dates and the composition carefully. A preview cannot recreate missing detail from a blurry or cropped source photo.
What size should I choose?
Measure the wall, chair or space where the gift will go, then compare the dimensions available on the product page. Use our size and material guide to compare the main product types.
